Ray Castle, PhD, ATC, NREMT

Ray Castle, PhD, ATC, NREMT

A native of St. Joseph, Louisiana, and a proud 1990 graduate of LSU, Ray Castle brings over 34 years of diverse experience in athletic training, emergency care, and sports medicine education. Ray's extensive clinical background spans high school, college, and international levels, including service at major events like the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, the 2003 Pan American Games, and the 2004 U.S. Women’s Bobsled team. In 2023, he joined the USTA Athletic Medicine team to provide care at ATP Challenger Pro Circuit events. With a foundation in Kinesiology from LSU, Ray also holds both a Master’s and Ph.D. in Human Performance and Recreation from the University of Southern Mississippi. He is a nationally registered Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT). Ray is a nationally recognized figure in athletic training, known for his commitment to sports health and safety, with over 200 presentations, research projects, and publications to his name. His leadership roles have included serving on the NATA Education Council, CAATE’s Board of Commissioners, and as Vice-President of the Louisiana Athletic Trainers' Association. His achievements have earned him numerous honors, including the NATA Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award, inductions into the Southeast Athletic Trainers’ Association and Louisiana Athletic Trainers’ Association Halls of Fame, and, most recently, the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Hall of Fame in June 2024. A notable moment in his career includes recognition along with three of his LSU athletic training students from the Louisiana State Senate for their finish-line emergency response at the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. After a two-decade tenure at LSU as Professor and Athletic Training Program Director, Ray transitioned in August 2022 to focus full-time on Action Medicine Consultants, LLC, his own company specializing in sports medicine event coordination, emergency response training, EAP development, and continuing education for healthcare professionals. Ray has assisted the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s Pre-Game Administrative Conference (PAC) program, designed to elevate emergency preparedness at school sports events. His company provides medical coordination for numerous large-scale events across Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. Outside his professional life, Ray enjoys spending time with his wife, Katherine, who also attended LSU and Baton Rouge native. Together, they share a love for community, outdoor adventures, and staying connected to Louisiana’s vibrant culture.
